Once upon a time I was trying to live the life I have imagined… the life that everyone accepts. For instance I forgot the most important detail: me! I should enjoy my life, living my expectations, my feelings and my doubts. Unfortunately we don’t really understand why people judge and say do this or that. Don’t follow your hearth but your head… I achieved a moment where I felt the loneliness… the world and the city was completely empty… the lights were red and I was alone and terrified of the future… In that park, I cried as a child… I think this the end. I decided to leave… I knew that I wouldn’t regret this attitude even thought everyone, the others, wouldn’t understand it. It was hard walking alone… Leaving the park, the people on a beautiful day when the sun was shining. This was called a moment when I was becoming an adult.

Vivia numa cidade, que decidi apelidar por descartável, paradoxal em qualquer minuto. Tanto era muito movimentada, como deserta e assim me sentia eu. Dividida entre pólos e escolhas. Os semáforos mandaram-me parar, fui forçada a parar e a pensar… dói demasiado pensar. A sombra do arrependimento impunha-se, mas em simultâneo a vontade de gritar e redimir-me daquele erro… disse não e seria um sim. Ou talvez não. Uma vez mais a dúvida… no meio de muita gente, entre a luz e a sombra, sentia-me tão só. O vento arrepiava-me e chegava aquela sensação de medo, de insegurança. Regressei a casa e a pouca luz natural transformara-se em luzes artificiais de um qualquer transporte público. Não vi ninguém ou talvez tenha visto, mas na minha mente não estava ninguém. Adormeci… desejei que o sono me trouxesse o tempo perdido e me fizesse voltar aquele local naquele dia de sol em que fui feliz, simplesmente porque sim…

In the UK greyhound racing is part of the gambling business, similar to although far less profitable than horse racing. There's a big debate regarding the well-being of the dogs. A greyhound adoption movement has arisen to assist retired racing dogs in finding homes as pets.
These photos were taken at the Wimbledon greyhound stadium.

Teria sido melhor se não te tivesse visto na estação de metro. Era hora de ponta, a estação estava cheia; todos as pessoas com pressa e os minutos contados para chegar a tempo aos escritórios, as lojas, as escolas,...

Podia ter passado simplemente por ti e não ter dado conta que estavas ali.

Rapidamente fiz as contas e já não te vejo há 10 anos. A última vez que te vi tinhas o cabelo comprido, desalinhado, um riso desconsertante e ingenuo. Tinhas vontade de abraçar o mundo, fazer uma poesia só tua.

Estás diferente.

Por um momento achei que devia ter parado e feito todas as perguntas que há 10 anos gostariamos de ter tido resposta. Solteira ou não? Feliz ou não? Realizada ou não? Independente ou não?

Deixe-te ir sem dares pela minha presença. Tambem já não sou a mesma pessoa e nem saberia por onde começar a grande história de como os meus planos mudaram de direcção e as minhas grandes certezas continuam sem resposta...

Pergunto-me quem seríamos nós se a vida não nos tivesse atirado para plataformas diferentes da estação.

It would have been much better if I hadn’t seen you today at the station. It was peak hour and everybody was is a rush to get in time to the office, to the shops, to school.

I could have just walked past you without even noticing you were there.

Quickly I did the maths and I haven’t seen you in 10 years. Last time I saw you, you had long scruffy hair, a wide and naive smile. You wanted to embrace the whole world, create your own poetry.

You look different now.

For a moment I thought of stopping you to ask all those questions we would have wanted answered 10 years ago. Single or not? Happy or not? Accomplished or not? Independent or not?

But I let you go by without you noticing my presence. I am too a different person and I wouldn’t know where to start telling you the long story of how my plans changed direction and how my certainties are still without answer.

I wonder who we would be if life hadn’t thrown us onto different platforms in the station...

Street portraits - people I met
These portraits portray my journeys: through new exciting countries and cultures or just around the block! Most of them i met by chance, some everyday, but all of them have a story behind; it is curious to look at them as they become part of my photographic memories. To approach people on the street takes time, makes you feel vulnerable with the camera but when you step forward into them you think you get to know a little bit of their lives through that stolen tender look. These series are an ongoing project.

caminho, percorro as ruas olhando para todas as direccões. perco-me nos pormenores e no abstracto que a cidade me oferece. multidões passam por mim despercebidas da minha lente. não ligam. disparo. congelo momentos. guardo-os no meu baú electrónico. a cidade vai descongelando à minha frente, por vezes, levo a arma apenas a tiracolo, outras em punho. atraem-me olhares, reflexos, enquadramentos, o acaso, prende-me o olhar tudo que um segundo depois já não está lá. a cidade não se apercebe, não dá por ela, ou não. está lá, atenta a tudo. atenta a mim, à minha arma...ao meu olhar.

as cidades crescem, evoluem, modificam-se, o que hoje existe, amanhã pode não mais estar lá. este processo transfigurativo obriga-nos a estar atentos. passo todos os dias por ali, mas só hoje reparei, que aquela janela reflectia assim. triste, alegre, despreocupada, teve sempre lá, mas para mim nunca existiu até hoje me esbarrar com ela. a cidade marca. calcorreio caminhos mil e uma vezes, mas hoje virei à esquerda, onde normalmente tomo a direita. apeteceu-me. descobri que ali, naquela ruela, nada mais havia, apenas mais uns metros de uma cidade que eu pensava que tão bem conhecia. estava errrado. as cidades não tem fim.
